One of the great things about being able to illustrate and paint are birthdays. And Christmas’ for that matter. When everyone else is going through Amazon checklists, browsing store ads and amping up for Black Friday madness, I get to sit in my studio. And listen to Bonnie Raitt and Norah Jones. And look at pretty things on and off line.
Here is an illustration that I gave to my brother for his birthday not too long ago. What I love about being able to draw and paint is that a painting is usually a pretty special gift to the receiver. And even more, it’s an honor to be placed on the wall beside that diploma or family photo. Best of all, it always brings a smile.
Meet Minka, my brother’s less than one-year old puppy who is an Alaskan Malamute. While she sure is a pretty thing, she sure can get into mischief. And this one time, oh did she get into some big trouble that involved an unsuspecting corn cob on the dinner table and, several days later, a pretty hefty vet bill to get it back out.
Needless to say, Minka is doing quite well and the summertime corn consumption has gone down exponentially with her around. And what is left is a pretty funny story. What are some one-of-a-kind gifts that you like to make or buy for your family and friends?
